Volunteers may work with students to complete their daily homework assignments or in groups to practice the key concepts of the day’s work. Most of them already know the material but seek a little extra encouragement and affirmation. Please do not ‘give’ them the answers and please do not let them copy from their neighbor.
The kids are full of energy so you may need to remind them to focus on their assignments. Math and word games are available after their homework is done. Or, some children may want to read.
Becoming a tutor will give you the most direct exposure to the students. You will interact with students as you build relationships, get to know them, and provide academic assistance. If there is a specific grade level that you would prefer to work with or not, please let our program directors know when you indicate your interest and every effort will be made to accommodate you. Your commitment level can vary according to what fits your schedule best.
We do more than just tutoring. We have become an integral part of our families’ lives; we serve as our student’s liaisons between their parents and schools. We currently provide academic enrichment support for students in grades kindergarten to high school. We are committed to making a difference.. We invite you to use the links below to connect with us via Twitter and Facebook so you can be informed about what we are doing. If you can’t volunteer, please click here and support us financially.
Working together with you, the kids truly find new confidence in themselves and see their grades progressively improve. You are making a difference. To inquire about volunteer opportunities, please contact Abigail Lora, Programs Coordinator, at alora@sandyspringsmission.org
