Long time Sandy Springs Mission parent, Ana Alvarado Gomez, was recently elected as the first Latino parent member of the Riverwood School Governance Council. She is the parent of Riverwood rising freshman, Bryan Araujo Alvarado, who has been a part of the Mission since he was four years old.
“I’m excited to get to work. I want to get busy and learn the ways I can help support all the students at Riverwood,” she said recently while taking a break from work. Ms. Alvarado Gomez is a certified medical administrative assistant.
According to the Riverwood website, the purpose of the council is to provide parents, school staff and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. Among the 15 council members are the school principal, Kindra Smith, as well as parents, students, teachers and community members. Felix Lora, Director of the Sandy Springs Mission, is a community member of the council.
“I see Ana’s election to the council as a big win for Riverwood. I’ve known about her intelligence and her heart for helping others for a long time. I can’t wait to watch as she uses those talents for the good of the Riverwood community,” Lora said.
